House Concept Study. The Living explores a radical yet simple idea: a house conceived as one continuous living room.
Rather than dividing space into isolated rooms, the project brings daily life together within a single, generous volume. As a result, the house feels open, bright, and adaptable, while still offering privacy where needed.
One Space, Many Experiences
The living room forms the heart of the house.
It spans the full depth and full height of the building. From the entrance hall, the space opens immediately and establishes a clear visual and spatial hierarchy. The kitchen sits in direct relationship with this central room and looks onto the back garden, reinforcing the connection between inside and outside.
Meanwhile, bedrooms and kitchen regroup into a compact volume. This volume reads as an inhabited object placed within the larger space.
Light as a Unifying Element
Light shapes the project as much as space.
The living room receives daylight from both gable ends. In addition, light filters through the pitched ceiling via a layered system of polyester fibre insulation and fabric. This system softens and diffuses daylight while maintaining thermal performance.
Importantly, light does not stop at the living room. It continues into the bedrooms and stair through carefully positioned openings. Consequently, the entire house benefits from a shared luminous atmosphere.
Flexible Living
The layout supports change over time.
Two bedrooms sit upstairs. One bedroom occupies the front of the ground floor. This arrangement allows long-term adaptability. At any point, the ground-floor bedroom can become a home office or small shop front, directly accessible from the entrance hall.
Ground-floor toilets support this flexibility and remain easily accessible for both domestic and professional use.
Efficient by Design
Efficiency drives every decision.
Circulation remains compact. Storage integrates into walls, floors, and volumes. Every square metre serves a purpose, either as living space or usable storage. As a result, the house feels generous without excess.
A Living Framework
Ultimately, The Living offers a framework rather than a fixed solution.
It prioritises light, adaptability, and spatial continuity. At the same time, it supports everyday life with efficiency and comfort. The house evolves with its occupants, rather than restricting them.
