Base camp & survival shelters in Kong Oscar Fjord, Greenland

Biomorphis designed and built prefabricated base camp and survival shelters for a mineral exploration expedition in Kong Oscar Fjord, Greenland.

The team needed protection from harsh weather, cold temperatures, and wildlife. The shelters are lightweight, robust, and fully modular, making deployment in remote locations fast and efficient.

The project required careful coordination. Each shelter travels by helicopter and assembles quickly on-site. The design focuses on safety, comfort, and practicality, providing reliable living and working conditions in extreme environments.

Prefabrication & Deployment

Prefabrication allows the team to install shelters quickly and with minimal effort on-site. Helicopters deliver the modules to otherwise inaccessible areas. Sections connect seamlessly to create a cohesive base camp capable of withstanding strong winds, snow, and freezing temperatures.

The modular design also allows expansion or relocation. The shelters provide safe living spaces, workstations, and storage hubs wherever the expedition moves.

Outcome

The Kong Oscar Fjord shelters demonstrate how design innovation meets extreme environmental challenges. Prefabrication, lightweight materials, and efficient layouts ensure the team stays safe, comfortable, and operational.

These shelters prove that architects can solve practical problems while responding creatively to extreme conditions. By designing portable, robust, and adaptable solutions, Biomorphis enables expeditions to focus on their mission while staying secure in one of the most remote regions on Earth.
