Attic transformation on Milton Street

This project transforms a compact one-bedroom flat into a spacious two-bedroom home through a carefully designed attic conversion. The new upper floor becomes the centrepiece: a grand open-plan kitchen and living space set beneath the roof, with generous proportions and characterful volumes.

A dedicated home office is also integrated at this level, offering privacy and flexibility within the expanded layout.

On the ground floor, the reconfiguration creates a larger, more comfortable bathroom and a more generous entrance hall, enhancing both daily use and the sense of arrival. The new plan balances private and social spaces, providing flexibility for modern living while respecting the character of the existing tenement.

Affordability and sustainability guided our approach. By working with the existing structure and maximising the use of natural light and space, the project achieves a substantial transformation with a minimal footprint. This strategy not only reduces waste and cost but also ensures the flat is adaptable for long-term living needs.

The result is a dramatic reimagining of the home: from a modest single-bedroom dwelling into a light-filled, adaptable and sustainable flat, combining affordability with architectural ambition.
