Metropolitan Architecture Centre - Edinburgh

Two Edinburgh patterns: the fold and the mask

The idea is to propose a Museum of Architecture for Scotland, named the Metropolitan Architecture Centre (MAC). The museum's architectural language would emerge from the territorial patterns of Edinburgh's old town and the new forces at stake in the city.

The centre is designed as a fold: it expresses the strata which are still very active in Edinburgh.

Historical strata just don't simply lay on top of each other; they fold from one end to another. They are one continuous flow of a single layer
with its accidents and events.

The capital's strata are topological in a way that they connect with time but they are also inherently non logical. They are the result of clashes of multiple forces, may they be geological, animal or socia

The centre is not about beliving in history anymore but about stories.
